In brief: Colombia’s industrial production ticks up

* Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has published the latest figures on industrial production, which increased by 15.5% in August compared with the same month last year. This increased output was driven by a 22.9% rise in industrial manufacturing; a 7.2% increase in the provision of electricity and gas; a 3.3% rise in the usage, treatment and distribution of water; and a 1.5% increase in mining and quarrying activity. Although the increase can be largely attributed to the low basis of comparison in 2020, when much economic activity was suspended due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, industrial production in August was also 1.5% higher than the pre-pandemic figures recorded in August 2019.
