Dominican Republic responds to Haiti crisis

Dominican President Luis Abinader has called on the international community to “act with urgency” to address the security crisis in neighbouring Haiti. His appeal, which was accompanied by tougher anti-migration measures domestically, highlights continued concerns about gang violence and insecurity there which most recently made headlines following the mass kidnapping of 17 North American missionaries (who have yet to be released) [WR-21-42] as well as the gangs’ ongoing blockading of fuel supplies [WR-21-43].
