* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest figures for its monthly index of economic activity (IBC-Br), which show that economic activity shrank 0.27% in September compared with August. Following a negative variation of the IBC-Br in August, economic activity over the July-September quarter has contracted by 0.14% compared with Q2, and grown 4.22% in the 12 months to September. The IBC-Br serves as a preview of GDP growth, and its latest figures indicate that Brazil could be about to fall into a technical recession after recording negative quarter-on-quarter GDP growth
in Q2.
