Caribbean & Central America - November 2021


The United Nations (UN) Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), along with local civil society groups, have blasted a series of reforms to Honduras’ criminal code, criminal procedural code, and anti-money laundering legislation, recently approved by the legislature. The changes are likely to exacerbate existing concerns about corruption under the current government led by President Juan Orlando Hernández – the main voter complaint ahead of the 28 November general elections. The first piece in this November edition of the Latin American Regional Report: Caribbean & Central America looks at the latest concerns.
