HAITI: Migration crisis draws international concern

“An aerial expulsion campaign of historic proportions”. This was how US human rights lobby group Washington Office on Latin America (Wola) categorised US deportations of Haitian migrants gathered in the US town of Del Rio (Texas) after crossing from Mexico last month, with the highest number at one point reaching some 15,000 people. The migrants have since been dispersed but the exodus remains a major concern for the region as well as the US, while their treatment has drawn widespread condemnation from various United Nations (UN) bodies and other human rights groups.
