In brief: Mexico’s unemployment rate remains stable

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released new figures from its national employment survey (Enoe) which show that the unemployment rate in October stood at 3.9%, a figure that is unchanged from the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in September. In year-on-year terms, unemployment has fallen by 0.8 percentage points from 4.7%. The economically active population (in employment or actively seeking work) increased by 3.35m between October 2020 and October 2021, to 58.69m – it is now equivalent to 59.4% of the population aged 15 and over. Meanwhile, the under-employment rate has fallen year-on-year, from 14.9% to 11.1%.
