* The World Bank (WB) has published a report highlighting the economic impacts of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on Argentina’s population. The report notes that 40% of households have suffered a reduction in income during the pandemic, and 20% of households are struggling to afford food (compared to 10% prior to the arrival of the coronavirus). This is despite 40% of households having received some form of emergency economic support from the government during the pandemic. The WB also warned that 24% of Argentines who were employed prior to the pandemic are now unemployed or have left the labour market, and that the quality of employment has declined, “particularly among vulnerable groups: women, the elderly, and less educated workers.”
