* Peru’s copper production is up 10% in the first ten months of the year compared to the same period of 2020, according to new figures published by Peru’s mining and energy ministry (Minem). Between January and October 2021, Peru produced 1.89m tonnes (t) of copper, the country’s main metal export – up from 1.72mt in the same period of the previous year. Minem also reported increased production of gold (up 12.1%), zinc (24.2%), silver (26.7%), lead (13.6%), iron (54.5%), tin (38.1%) and molybdenum (5.5%) in the first ten months of 2021 as compared to the same period of 2020. According to Minem, the figures indicate a “solid and progressive recovery” of the Peruvian mining industry following the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in 2020.
