In brief: Ecuador’s Lasso confirms rise in national minimum wage

* Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso has announced that the national minimum wage (SBU) for 2022 will increase by US$25 to US$425. He said that this is the highest percentage increase in eight years and was in line with one of the electoral pledges which brought him to office in May 2021. The announcement has been well received by unions such as Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT).  Last year the SBU was not increased year-on-year – the first time since its implementation that it had remained unchanged.
