“Bolivia needs dialogue and consensus,” the country’s largest business lobby, Confederación de Empresarios Privados de Bolivia (CEPB), urged the government led by President Luis Arce in a statement on 15 December. CEFB called upon the government to undergo a “profound and significant” change in priorities, elevating economic issues above political confrontation in order to generate “more confidence and less division”. In recent weeks protests against the government’s continued targeting of individuals believed to be implicated in the unrest which led to Evo Morales (2006-2019) submitting his resignation and fleeing the country in November 2019 have increased significantly, along with demonstrations in support of the government organised by the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS).
