In brief: Brazil sees strong tax take in November

* Brazil’s economy ministry has released the latest figures on the government’s tax income, showing that the Receita Federal tax authority collected R$157.34bn (US$27.4bn) in taxes in November this year. This represents a 1.41% increase on the tax take in November 2020 (after adjusting for inflation). Between January and November this year, the tax take has totalled R$1.68trn, an 18.13% increase on last year and the highest figure since 2000. The recovery of the economy, after the contraction it suffered last year due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, as well as some one-off tax collections, can help explain this strong tax take.
