In brief: Argentina hails rise in tax take

* Argentina’s economy ministry has released new figures which show that the national tax take for December 2021 totalled Ar$1.18trn (US$11.4bn), up 73.6% on December 2020. An economy ministry statement said that the increased tax haul is principally due to increased income from social security (+67.8% year-on-year), foreign trade (+142.8%), and economic activity (+71.1%). The December 2021 figure brings the amount for the whole of 2021 to Ar$11.0trn, up 65.9% on 2020. According to an economy ministry press release, the latest figures reflect the “consolidation of economic recovery” following the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and a return to pre-pandemic levels.
