COLOMBIA | Inflation picks up steam. Inflation reached 5.62% in Colombia in 2021, according to the national statistics institute (Dane). This is the highest level since the 5.75% recorded in 2016 and almost twice the target rate of Colombia’s central bank, Banco de la República. Inflation was driven by a surge in food prices. The cost of potatoes increased by as much as 111%, for instance, and beef by 33%.
