In brief: Peru’s fiscal deficit shrinks

* Peru’s central bank (BCRP) has announced that the country’s fiscal deficit stood at PEN22.75bn (US$5.86bn) in December 2021, representing 2.6% of GDP. This was down from the PEN63.74bn recorded in December 2020, when the fiscal deficit reached 8.9% of GDP. Government income increased by 43.3% year-on-year, driven by a 49.9% increase in tax revenue, while government expenditure increased by 9.4%
