EL SALVADOR | Remittances surge. On 16 December El Salvador’s central bank (BCR) released new figures which showed that remittances to El Salvador totalled US$6.77bn in the first 11 months of 2021, up 28.2% on the same period in 2020. Remittances from the US totalled US$6.43bn, accounting for 95.0% of the total, followed by Canada (US$63.7m) and Spain (US$25.9m).
