MEXICO: Morena senate divisions intensify

A schism has opened between senators from the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), with senate majority leader Ricardo Monreal on one side and a group of 29 senators, spearheaded by César Cravioto, on the other. This week, it was revealed that the 29-strong splinter group was meeting to discuss the recent creation of a special commission, for which Monreal had sought the approval of the senate’s political coordination board (Jucopo), but not the wider senate.
