MEXICO: Ambassador appointments cause a stir

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has had to defend several of Mexico’s newly named ambassadors in the past week. The ambassadorial appointments, which were announced by the foreign ministry (SRE) on 17 January and are still pending approval in the senate, have been the subject of controversy, drawing criticism from women’s rights groups and opposition politicians.
