In brief: Unemployment keeps falling in Brazil

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest figures on unemployment for the rolling quarter ending in November 2021, which show that Brazil’s unemployment rate continues to fall, although it remains in the double digits. The unemployment rate reached 11.6% in the September-November rolling quarter – equivalent to an unemployed population of 12.4m – down from 13.1% in the rolling quarter ending in August, and down from 14.4% over the same period a year earlier. Of the 3.2m people who joined the ranks of the employed between June-August and September-November, 43% did so in the informal sector.
