Done deal in Argentina… or not?

On 28 January, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Argentina said they had reached an “understanding” on key elements of an economic stabilisation programme needed to avert the risk of default. The agreement includes a controversial ‘fiscal pathway’ to eventually eliminate the budget deficit. While undoubtedly a step forward, critical details are still outstanding, and success is not guaranteed.
