MEXICO: LGBTI+ violence on the rise

Letra S, a Mexico City-based (CDMX) civil society organisation dedicated to defending LGBTI+ rights, announced on 14 February that there had been an escalation in LGBTI+ hate crime in Mexico over the previous two months. The forms of violence ranged from discrimination in places of entertainment, to physical attacks, attempted homicides and murder, with eight killings recorded in January alone. In the face of rising violence, Letra S urged the Mexican government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to guarantee justice for victims of LGBTI+ hate crimes, as well as implementing effective policies to prevent such crimes from happening.
