BRAZIL: Government trims taxes with eye on election

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro signed off on a 25% reduction to the levy on industrialised products (imposto sobre produtos industrializados, IPI) on 25 February. Bolsonaro’s announced tax cut is just the latest move by his government to curry favour with the electorate, with an eye to re-election on 2 October.
