COSTA RICA: Chaves surges clear

Costa Rica’s presidential race took an unexpected turn this week. Rodrigo Chaves has not only closed a big gap to his rival José María Figueres from the first round on 6 February, but he has also established a large lead ahead of the second round on 3 April, according to the first electoral survey published since the first round, by the national pollster Centro de Investigación y Estudios Políticos (Ciep) of the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR).
