* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest data on the country’s services sector, which show that the volume of services shrank 0.1% in January, compared with December 2021. This follows on from two months of positive results, with Ibge’s research manager
Rodrigo Lobo noting that it is too early to say whether the January result marks an inflexion point towards a shrinking of the services sector, or just a blip. In year-on-year terms, services grew 9.5% in January, and the sector remains 7% above pre-coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic levels (February 2020).
