In brief: Paraguay’s inflation rises steeply

* Paraguay’s central bank (BCP) has published the consumer price index for March, revealing a 0.8% monthly inflation rate and a 10.1% annual rate. The figures show a steep year-on-year acceleration, with the monthly rate up from 0.1% in March 2021, and the annual rate up from 2.4%. In a statement, the BCP noted that there were price increases “in nearly all categories”, and especially in food and fuels. In an interview with Paraguayan daily La Nación published yesterday, BCP’s chief economist, Miguel Mora, said that the bank’s target range for 2022 was 4% +/-2.
