CHILE: Warning light on the constitution

For the first time, public opinion in Chile seems to be turning against the partially drafted new constitution, the work of the country’s specially elected Constitutional Convention (CC). Two recently published opinion polls show that, based on current information, a majority of voters would reject the new constitutional text when it is submitted to a referendum later this year. That poses a big political challenge to the country’s recently sworn-in left-wing president, Gabriel Boric.
