ECUADOR: Llori clings to the congressional presidency

A six-week power struggle in Ecuador’s legislature intensified this week, with the president of the national assembly, Guadalupe Llori of the indigenous Pachakutik (PK) party, securing a judicial order preventing deputies from forming an ‘ad hoc’ commission to investigate her alleged failures of leadership. The judicial order came as parties aligned with President Guillermo Lasso, which for weeks had sought to remain above the fray, appeared to be leaning towards supporting an investigation of Llori and the administrative council (CAL) over which she presides.
