* Ecuador’s President
Guillermo Lasso has met with Uruguay’s President
Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou in Uruguay’s capital Montevideo, where he raised the possibility of a bilateral trade agreement between the two countries.
“I believe that the economies of Uruguay and Ecuador are complementary,” Lasso said.
“Uruguay doesn’t produce what Ecuador produces, and vice versa. So we could export bananas and could also buy dairy products and meat.” Lasso also said that he and Lacalle Pou had discussed the possibility of creating a free trade zone in South America modelled on the European Union (EU), which he had discussed the previous day with Argentina’s President
Alberto Fernández in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.
