In brief: Think tank warns of rising cost of basic basket of food in Venezuela
* A Venezuelan think tank, Centro de Documentación y Análisis Social (Cendas), has calculated that the price of the basic basket of food products in Venezuela stood at US$471.16 in March, representing a year-on-year increase of 46%. The price of the basket rose by 3.6% compared to February, driven by price increases for dairy products and eggs (+4.9%), grains (+4.0%), and meat (+3.0%). Cendas noted that purchasing the full basket would require Venezuelans to be earning over 16 times the minimum monthly wage.
