In brief: Argentina’s primary deficit rises
* Argentina’s economy ministry has announced that the country posted a primary fiscal deficit of Ar$99.75bn (US$875m) in March 2022 compared with Ar$74.46bn in the same month in 2021. This brings primary deficit for the first quarter of 2022 to Ar$192.735bn although the government led by President Alberto Fernández maintains that this is well within the target of Ar$222.264bn established in line with the latest agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to the economy ministry, total government income in March was Ar$1.074bn (+91.7% year-on-year), while primary expenditures, totalled Ar$1.174bn (+84.9%).
