In brief: Argentine minister says country on track with IMF programme

*Argentina’s economy minister, Martín Guzmán, has said that the targets of the recently finalised economic agreement between Argentina and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would not change and social protection spending would be prioritised. He made his comments following a meeting with IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva in Washington where he said that Argentina’s fiscal targets set for the first quarter of 2022 had been fulfilled. While in Washington, Guzmán also met officials from other multilateral institutions such as the managing director of operations for the World Bank, Axel van Trotsenburg, and secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann. He also held a meeting with US Deputy Energy Secretary David Turk in which the two discussed expanding bilateral cooperation to promote a sustainable energy transition in the Western Hemisphere.
