Lula missteps could provide Bolsonaro with opening

Brazil’s former president Lula da Silva (2003-2011) is due to formally launch his presidential election campaign on 7 May. On the surface the ever-popular left-winger is being propelled by a strong following wind, as he is leading in the opinion polls well ahead of the controversial incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro, the right-winger intent on re-election, who is expected to formally declare on the same day. But there are some doubts over whether Lula can summon up his old political magic.
