HAITI: Resurgence in gang violence sparks concerns

The kidnapping of a Dominican diplomat (since released) and surge in civilian killings due to gang violence in the Port-au-Prince commune of Croix-des-Bouquets have reignited concerns about Haiti’s dire security situation which has deteriorated since the July 2021 assassination of president Jovenel Moïse (2017-2021). Further piling pressure on the government led by Prime Minister Ariel Henry, mass protests took place last month over its failure to address the rising insecurity.
