* Chile’s national statistics institute (INE) has announced that monthly inflation reached 1.4% in April, bringing the year-on-year rate to 10.5%. Monthly inflation, which was less than the 1.9% registered in March, was particularly pronounced in the categories of recreation & culture (2.9%) and food & non-alcoholic drinks (2.3%). The latest figures were released the day after Chile’s central bank (BCCh)
raised the country’s interest rate by 125 basis points to 8.25% as part of efforts to rein in high inflation.
