Peru’s President Pedro Castillo announced yet another cabinet reshuffle on 22 May, replacing four ministers including Interior Minister Alfonso Chávarry and Mining & Energy Minister Carlos Sabino Palacios. Both had faced mounting calls to stand down over the month-long paralysis at the Las Bambas copper mine in the southern region of Apurímac, where operations have been suspended in response to fierce protests by local residents.
