In brief: Brazil's gov't happy with job creation in April

* Brazil’s labour ministry has released the latest figures on formal job creation, which show that 196,966 jobs were created in the formal sector in April this year. The total stock of formal jobs stood at 41.45m in April, a 0.48% increase on the figure in March. Between January and April this year, some 770,593 jobs were created in Brazil’s formal sector – a 13.6% decrease on the number of formal jobs created over the same period in 2021. The labour ministry’s executive secretary, Bruno Dalcolmo, cited the higher base of comparison this year to explain this decrease, saying “we do not expect to create the same number of [formal] jobs as we did last year, when over 2m positions were created” and that the expectation for this year is “quite positive”.
