In brief: Bolivia reduces shortlist of firms competing to extract lithium

*Bolivia’s energy minister, Franklin Molina, has announced that the government led by President Luis Arce has excluded two companies from the shortlist of eight competing foreign firms seeking to extract Bolivia’s vast lithium resources. Last year, the Arce government announced the shortlist of eight: US firms Lilac Solutions and EnergyX; Argentina’s Tecpetrol; Russia’s Uranium One; and China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), Fusion Enertech, TBEA Co Ltd and CITIC Guoan Group Co. In a press conference, Molina did not specify which two companies had been disqualified. He said that final results are expected to be revealed on 15 June, a date already pushed back from an initial May deadline for the announcement.
