COLOMBIA: Petro and Hernández make final push

Colombian voters will go the polls on 19 June to bring the curtain down on the most unusual presidential election campaign in the country’s modern history. For every electoral survey showing a narrow win for the left-winger Gustavo Petro there is another survey showing the populist outsider Rodolfo Hernández coming out on top by a similarly small margin. As the two candidates reach out to undecided centrist voters, an eleventh-hour judicial ruling, being challenged by Hernández, compelling them to hold a debate could provide a final twist. Uncertainty surrounds not just who will win but also what the victor will do upon taking office in August.
