ECUADOR: Indigenous protesters mobilise against Lasso

Ecuador’s umbrella indigenous organisation Confederación de Nacionalidades Indígenas del Ecuador (Conaie) launched an “indefinite” wave of protests on 13 June, threatening to bring the country to a standstill unless its long list of demands is met. Conaie has indicated that it is unwilling to reach a compromise with President Guillermo Lasso’s administration, and prospects for dialogue were further weakened by the arrest on 14 June of its leader, Leonidas Iza.
