MEXICO: US postpones Mexico’s air safety review

On 23 May, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) informed Mexico’s civil aviation agency (AFAC) that the technical review necessary to restore the country’s ‘Category 1’ aviation safety rating would be delayed by some weeks. Mexico’s deputy transport minister, Rogelio Jiménez Pons, said that he expected that the rating might not be recovered until the end of November, meaning Mexico will be stuck with its current lower ‘Category 2’ rating for longer than hoped and will remain unable to add capacity, frequencies, or routes to the US.
