In brief: Tourism continues to recover in Brazil

* The Brazilian umbrella tourism and services union, Federação do Comércio de Bens, Serviços e Turismo do Estado de São Paulo (Fecomercio SP) has calculated that domestic tourism brought in R$15.3bn (US$2.95bn) in April. This is up 47.7% on the same month in 2021, but remains 7.5% below April 2019, prior to the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Nevertheless, Fecomercio SP said that “the increase is not the result of a low base of comparison due to the effects of the pandemic, but a real sign of the improving prospects of national tourism.” Fecomercio SP highlighted a 159.7% year-on-year increase in air travel, which it said signified a return to the pre-pandemic levels of April 2019.
