ARGENTINA: Internal power struggle deepens

Vice President Cristina Fernández opened up a new front this week in her ever-widening internal dispute with President Alberto Fernández by taking aim at the social movements that are sustaining him. She criticised the use of social movements to administer state-funded social programmes, adding that the state should cut out third parties and re-establish direct control. President Fernández, meanwhile, took the opportunity to express his “eternal gratitude” to social movements.
