*Costa Rica’s tourism institute (ICT), a government body, has released new figures which show that 1.22m tourists visited Costa Rica in the first six months of 2022, 91.6% of whom did so via air. According to the same figures the number of arrivals via air represents 70.9% of the number who did so in the same period prior to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which struck in March 2020. According to the same figures, the US was the main source of tourists, accounting for 690,249 tourists in the first half of 2022. Tourism Minister
William Rodríguez has said that the government estimates that 2.4m-2.5m tourists will visit the country in 2022 and said that a key target for the ministry is for tourism to recover to pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2023.
