MEXICO: PRI infighting heats up

A month on from the meeting between the national leader of Mexico’s opposition Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), Alejandro Moreno, and former party presidents, which was designed to resolve the party’s internal differences, not much has improved. In fact, tensions between Moreno and the PRI’s current leader in the senate, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong, have worsened considerably. The senator has taken part in a spate of media interviews in recent weeks to criticise Moreno and moot ways to force his resignation. Meanwhile, Moreno has accused Osorio Chong of working with the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) to destabilise the PRI.
