HAITI: Political stalemate persists

Haiti recently marked the one-year anniversary of the assassination of former president Jovenel Moïse (2017-2021) which plunged the country into further crisis. Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who took over the post unelected following Moïse’s murder, has faced criticism both over the lack of progress into the investigation [WR-22-26] and over another priority - the staging of elections. These are essential as a way out of the crisis, with the legislative and judicial branches currently inoperative.
