*Mexico’s government has received a request from the US to review whether workers at a Manufacturas Vu auto parts factory in Mexico’s Piedras Negras municipality, Coahuila state, are being denied the rights of free association and collective bargaining. The request, which was made in response to a petition filed by two Mexican labour organisations (La Liga Sindical Obrera Mexicana and Comité Fronterizo de Obreras), marks the fifth time the US has used the Rapid Response Labour Mechanism (RRLM) in the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) on regional trade. Three of these previous labour complaints – regarding a Panasonic auto parts plant in Tamaulipas state; a Tridonex automotive parts factory in Tamaulipas; and a General Motors (GM) plant in Guanajuato – have been successfully resolved. Mexico has ten days to agree to conduct a review and, if it agrees, 45 days from today to complete the review.
