PERU: Pacheco’s surrender raises pressure on Castillo

Bruno Pacheco, President Pedro Castillo’s former chief adviser who absconded following his sentencing to 36 months’ preventive detention in March, is viewed by prosecutors as key to their investigation into alleged top-level corruption in the presidential palace. On 25 July he handed himself in to the authorities after more than three months on the run. His testimony, if he decides to cooperate with the attorney general’s office, could be explosive.
