Unemployment rises. Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) released the latest employment figures on 29 July, putting the unemployment rate in June at 11.3%. This was down 3.3 percentage points in year-on-year terms, but up 1.2 percentage points in seasonally adjusted monthly terms. The largest year-on-year employment increases in June were in the category ‘artistic activities, training, recreation, and other services’, in which 508,000 more jobs were recorded compared to June 2021. This was followed by industrial manufacturing, which saw a year-on-year increase of 269,000 jobs. In contrast, Dane recorded 64,000 job losses in the ‘vehicle trade and repairs’ category, compared to June 2021. Broken down by gender, the unemployment rate in June was 9.2% for men and 14.1% for women.
