* Chile’s state development agency (Corfo) has announced a new call for domestic and foreign companies to submit project proposals for developing value-added lithium products in the country. Corfo has invited mining companies in a bid to create a local industry for lithium-derived batteries, cathodes, and other products. According to a Corfo statement released on 12 August, the tender process is aimed at “
companies with verifiable experience, technical and financial capabilities”. These companies “
will be able to apply for access to lithium carbonate and hydroxide produced by [Chilean mining company] SQM Salar S.A. at favourable prices, and ensure a supply until 2030,” the statement explained. Corfo said that the call will open on 31 August.
