EL SALVADOR: Human rights concerns persist over state of emergency

Two new reports, one by the human rights observatory (OUDH) of the Jesuit Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) and the other by the respected local investigative publication El Faro, are stoking human rights concerns regarding the state of emergency declared by the government led by President Nayib Bukele, in response to gang violence. The state of emergency has been in place since late March [WR-22-13] and was extended again this week.
