* Brazil’s Companhia Nacional do Abastecimento (Conab), the logistics arm of the agriculture ministry, has projected in an official statement that the total production of grain crops could reach 308m tonnes in the 2022/23 harvest. Conab attributes the projection to the strong performance of the corn, soya, rice, legume, and cotton markets, the products that form more than 90% of Brazil’s grain crop output. Conab also indicated that soya is likely to reach a “
record” 150.36m tonnes. The statement cited Conab’s director of agricultural information and policies,
Sergio de Zen, as saying that “
the profit margins for suppliers remain positive, even with high production costs.”
